I'm super excited to know that there are more in his "Urth" series. Fascinating world he's built.

I'm reading the Book of the New Sun for the second time (just began the Sword of the Lictor), and I'm definitely getting more out of it on a second read. I like that he's not spoon-feeding you much of anything—it makes you have to think. I had no idea until now that there were more books in the series.

I was so relieved to see this was an Arizona Cardinals fan.

I've always thought that being dragged into the woods by the centaurs was going to be a pretty bad punishment. Centaurs are generally considered pretty rapey.

Yes on your whole list!

Nice! Now to find out where Trader Joe's is around here...

The mac and cheese thing is out of hand, but I have discovered something amazing/terrible for you: deep-fried mac & cheese balls. We recently got a deep fryer, and we had a ton of batter left, but were running out of things to deep fry. We had some leftover mac and cheese in the fridge (straight up store-brand

From the coverage I've seen, Wainwright was gassed and ready to come out after the 7th. I believe he as much as said so. That being said, I do feel like he's got a lot to learn about bullpen management. I've never missed Dave Duncan so much.

It is fair to be critical of Matheny—that sort of thing comes with the job description, especially when you make the postseason. As a Cards fan, I think he's mostly fine—a good fit for the system and has the ability to keep his team moving forward through a long season. I'm afraid that the same things that make him

The three mound visits rule is interesting—it seems like it would be like running out of timeouts. I guess the umpire has to keep track? How would you penalize a team that ran out there a fourth time, the ump misses it, but the other team is all over it?

And you're mostly correct! But the void is filled with corn, soybeans and rednecks.

Well, not nothing. Midwesterners have to have an airport hub somewhere.

The St. Louis Cardinals: home of the Best FanGraphs in Baseball.

Being raised in downstate Illinois (i.e., anything south of Joliet), I can attest to the fact that the vast majority of the non-Chicago population are extremely Midwestern and Republican to the core. In my experience, most downstaters hate Chicago with the fire of a thousand suns. Unless the Bears are on.

I'm really starting to enjoy the hate. You know you're doing something right when the NYT and the WSJ both think you're the worst. It feels legitimizing.

"Ray told us she was just narcoleptic."

I never knew that these throwback days applied to drugs as well. Greenies are so 1970s.

I did the same! Well, after I rewound the game to make sure I heard that right. Deadspin is dependable...

Why not just call it a Whack-a-Pole game?

You're right—that's a harsh assessment. Sansa starts out only doing what she was raised to do: be a good lady and maybe marry a king. It's not her fault that all of the structure she'd come to embrace is crumbling around her. And she does start to come to grips with it as the books go on. It's just so hard for me not
