Racism. They first formed as an easy way to make an entire neighborhood whites only. After the Civil Right Act passed, all the racists had to find new ways to either keep people out they don’t like or sue/fine the ones who get through into the ground. The same reason American states have been slowly passing CROWN Act

Racism. After segregation was struck down, they had to get more creative in keeping “undesirables” out of their neighbourhoods.  They could no longer put a “no coloreds” clause in the housing contracts, but they could form an HOA that could judge whether you’re a “good fit for the community” and could hassle you right

Corruption. The big developers build 50,000 houses. The use a HOA because they want control until everything sells. The streets, parks, sidewalks, streetlight, and storm drainage are all owned by the HOA.

In some parts of the US it is very difficult to find house not under an HOA. They are endemic in Florida, less common in Oregon unless you have a shared amenity like a community pool. I had a pickup on jacks in my driveway for a month, and nobody cared.

This thread sent me down a rabbit hole. Apparently the Kaufman dudes were condominum renters, and sometime after they had established contracts with tenants a law was passed that allowed periodic rent adjustments commensurate with the consumer price index.

How did these become so ubiquitous in the States.

Yeah, this is confusing as Hell. I had to look it “Kaufmann Language” and most sites that describe it do so in ways that are thoroughly unhelpful. Best I found was this site:

I don’t disagree, but to be far essentially ANY subdivision built since about 1970, though some go back further, have restrictions of some kind, though newer and more specifically nicer high end subdivision tend to have much more onerous restrictions and HOA’s. That said I suspect if the residents hired an attorney

Basically, the HOA is saying that the state law lacks the language that would enforce them to not enact the pickup rule against the residents and until the law contains that language, there isn’t much that residents of The Meadows can do.”

Technically speaking, almost everyone did a tax cut. The issue is that middle class people saved a few hundred to a few thousand while millionaires saved millions in taxes. So, most people got a cut, but the wealthier you are the bigger your tax cut was.

It can be a pain to find, but every road project is public. You can see the DOT budget and what every project cost. If you really want to, you can often find the drawings that went with each project to know exactly what was supposed to be done.

The convicted felon DJT mentioned that he would give a tax break to everyone and gave a tax to the Nation’s richest top 1% instead, true to big lying POS that he is.

It's the camel's nose under the tent. If they can charge 29 cents tax, what will stop them charging $2 next year?  Also if you live in a rural area you can't always get it from the store yourself.

Of course you do actually need to pay back the loans though. So Step 3 is more

And increase corporate taxes, at least back to where they were pre-pandemic.

It’s a real issue as heavier EVs are getting more prolific and not paying any gas or road usage tax.”

All discussions on tax shortfalls should start with the buy/borrow/die loophole. My favorite part is where an asset’s value resets once it is passed on. So, an asset’s value can increase infinitely and if the heirs sell it off as soon as they receive it, they get 100% of the gains at 0% tax.

Ok but can I get a spreadsheet showing that the funds from the gas taxes directly went to the road constructions, and show which roads were maintained and how much each project was for the past 5 years

Does that mean a van with 300 parcels in it pays $100 per trip? cause that seems like a lot.

Police said the suspect vehicle has been identified, but did not announce any arrests.”
