The first game was released in 2013 and wasn’t meant to be the success it was. So it is not as refined as the later games in the franchise.
I would highly recommend it. It has a great story with charming characters, however the only real thing that might raise an eyebrow is its abnormal battle system, which is... different than most games of its type.
The lack of a Fumika/Katie style watch in the US saddens me.
