Seriously, the article is basically low key justifying the slap.. at best....at best...Kylie's echoing one of Rock's most problematic bits, his "I don't condone it but I understand..." bit on OJ.

I empathize with you on the weight of words - up to a point.

Some of the newer Jez writers (especially this one) just churn out semi-coherent rage bait.

The point is, those people were ACTUALLY helped. That’s not faux-philanthropy. If people get real help, it’s real, period.

faux-philanthropy”

Oh were those people not really blind or something?

Jesus Christ, the worst? Really? Why the fuck are you guys acting like he’s the bad guy because they system sucks. FFS there are far worse ways to make your money than helping other people. Fuck anyone who works for a nonprofit as a job, they are just helping people for their own enrichment!

While I understand the viewpoint against influencers using stunt philanthropy to make money, I also understand that the people receiving the assistance would not have received it otherwise because so many in our society don’t care enough to improve social programs or have the money to contribute to philanthropic causes

No dog in this fight, unless I happen upon one of his videos while scrolling I never see them. It just seems like pretty harmless dorky white boy content to me.

No. I barely defended what has come out out Rock’s mouth - I have viciously and energetically condemned the Root’s obsession with punishing Rock over the perceived slights in what was otherwise lame ass jokes.

Reminds me of all the breathless coverage of the person who paid off kids’ lunch bills so they could graduate. AS IF KEEPING KIDS FROM GRADUATING BECAUSE THEY COULDN’T AFFORD FOOD WASN’T UTTERLY FUCKED UP OR SOMETHING!

Hate to tell you this, but even the older regular philanthropy tends to end in self enrichment or gratification.

I am convinced some writers at The Root just take the top comment in the comment section of a article from the Shade Room, feed it in to ChatGPT, and then straight submit it to the editor.

I honestly don’t know which of the articles was the worst at this point.

They need to change the site’s name to one of the following:

Learn to read, Booboo, I called some of Rock’s stuff lame here and in other comment sections. I wouldn’t pay $40M, but the fact remains that Netflix will make well in excess of $40M airing that special.

God Damn, stop acting like a total clown show. You are not the arbiter of what is and isn’t comedy. I don’t know if Chris Rock is anti-black or not; I’m not black so if someone black says that it feels anti-black, then I will say you are fully justified/entitled to feel that way. But I do know that are many black

Weirdly, that’s the same question I had. Not about Netflix, but...

Bruh.

So his history and success as a black comedian, a very influential one at that, is overshadowed by the perceived slights of a small percentage of people who have decided they get to decide for everyone what counts as enough of danger to black people (I guess. I truly do not understand what exact harm is being done

DeSantis is a sick fuck in so many ways. However, given the dynamics of the GOP primary, I wouldn’t be surprised if this benefits him in the short term.
