I always chalked it up to being the way I heard it first, that old blue label Straight pressing, with sides 1/4 and 2/3 paired together so you could slap it on a stacking record changer. But yeah, the CD version has never felt as right to me.

I've always enjoyed the story that Beefheart ordered 20 sets of sleigh bells and when Zappa pointed out there were only a dozen people in the studio total, he shrugged and said "we'll overdub."

Having heard numerous cover band drummers try to "improve" Rudd's parts, let's just say a little of that goes a long way.

Wrong. Dude is rock solid and has a great feel that others occupying the seat (like Chris Slade) never could replicate.

Vigorously smh? Huh?

Smothered in gravy, Texas style!

The indignant way Joel declares "Pile-On Pete!?!" Destroys me every time.

Hey! Me too. Just got the newest MST3K box set in the mail Friday so it was The Painted Hills for me.

I'll second Old Rasputin. Good stuff. Wish I had one now.

Now we're back to oppyu's comment up above.

Tell you what, Universal. I'll save you a lot of trouble and money. Just replay all the classic movies in theaters. I'll be there for every one. This edgy remake/reboot/regurgitate bullshit? Not havin' it.

Some players can be region un-locked here in the states. DVD players like that were dime a dozen around here. Blu-Ray, I'm not so sure about. I don't think it's reached the "enter a code on the remote on this $30 common as dirt blu-ray player" level yet at any rate.

I'll admit, I almost went in for special packaging once. It was the Planet of the Apes "Bust Box" set which had everything (on DVD, this was a while ago) crammed in a life sized ape bust. What's not to like about that? (Aside from the fact that it was crazy expensive, I was on vacation when I saw it and there was no

Whew! There's the daily Taylor Swift item. I was beginning to worry.

I don't know if I'll ever understand the appeal of the steel books (and whatever other names they're marketed under) but some people really seem to dig them. Like to the point of ordering discs out of region just because the UK gets a 'book and the US doesn't, even though you can't play the disc on your US equipment.

I'm a little behind on current hip-hop culture, where I'm pretty sure the whole "hater" thing came from, but wasn't this already on the way out if not already there?

It's hard to explain without sounding like a hipster contrarian, but 30 years of listening to this album and I've just burnt myself out on it. Sadly, I feel that way about most of the Beatles catalog. They were the first band I ever obsessed over and I probably just overdid it. I never have a negative reaction when

I'm guessing anything more than that would confuse his fans.

Fair enough. In my race to Internet rage, I missed that.

No mention of Zombi? They were one of the first bands I ever heard reviving this style and, IMHO, still one of the best.
