Maybe the cat is the broken link, and the bear is the lord....? Jeez, this is harder than it looks.

that sounds like an excellent read, thanks for the suggestion :)
there’s more than one - with shit like this, it’s typically northwestern europe, like norway, sweden, denmark, maybe switzerland.
Exactly. We lead the developed world - the entire world, i think - in percentage of population in prison. So do we have a lower crime rate to show for it? You know damn well we don’t. The reason so many people are in jail/prison have absolutely nothing to do with lowering crime, and everything to do with controlling…
I think this speaks to the larger lie that punishment is an effective deterrent. Sounds rational, sure, but it’s much better at making people feel and act like criminals/outcasts/broken. Everyone who knows anything about it knows that Department of Corrections is a complete misnomer.
Your link didn’t work :(
+1 for Anger Products

But to say, “well actually, guys, we have totes been besties with dictators before” is unhelpful, lacking any context, and seemingly meant to dilute the freakout about what is happening right now that should probably be even more severe.
A couple thoughts.
I guess I agree with that. Although it’s nothing new; there were plenty of liberals who were in favor of, well, all the Iraq wars, and in favor of giving ALL THE MONEY to Israel to shoot and drop bombs on Palestinians armed with nothing but rocks and kites. When it comes down to it, our brutal and callous foreign…
That... sounds like what I was saying: “work together to organize economic activity...” Whereas this is what I was finding exception to:
If even a pretty white lady who’s afraid of speeding tickets can face jail time over something this innocuous, that’s a pretty clear sign how far this administration and its lackeys will go to silence dissent and attack anyone who crosses it.
somehow we all become smart enough to effectively distribute goods and services without it needing to be organized or without the need for price signalling.
What “point” is this blog post, or my comment, beside? Seems perfectly on point to me. Over and over in the media we’re getting the message that Drumpf shouldn’t be making deals with or trusting such a bloodthirsty monster as Kim - did you hear the poor North Korean people are starving, and have no Freedom of Speech™…
Fuck each and every single apologist for the long and frequent pattern of US playing nice with brutal dictators and other ugly war criminals.
This is probably not that complicated, but it feels to me like a bill fucked a double negative and gave birth to whatever this is.
I think it also begs the question (I know I’m using the phrase wrong, sorry): what are “establishment” Dems even winning when there’s so little difference between them and Republicans (on certain economic issues at least)? They’re often winning office, sure, but what part of their legislative agenda is getting pushed…
Some of the “establishment” Dems are winning primaries, some aren’t. And I think Paul Blest made a great case yesterday for the fact that 1) even if they don’t win, “progressive” (as opposed to “establishment”) Dems have been successful in “dragging” establishment Dems left, which means 2) a lot of candidates…
