The fact she participated in a felony that got someone killed is why she’s in prison and, hopefully, she stays there until she’s dead.
Because Gawker.
The “trial tax” idea is true - if you plea, you get a lesser sentence. If you make the prosecution go to the time and expense of proving your guilty, you get zero breaks. Everyone knows this, but the “trial tax” characterization is what criminals call it after they admit to committing a crime but want to bitch about…
I don’t think many people are necessarily sympathetic towards Avery - he isn’t portrayed as an upstanding member of society in the doc - so much as they think he should get another trial.
Not on Gawker, except old white people (or hell, all white people), cops, all law enforcement, any GOP member, anyone that is against raising the minimum wage, etc.
No, this case shows that this woman got the sentence she deserved. There’s no injustice here.
Not true. They had been looking to rob people for a period of time. They used a car to confine the victims in an area. They then robbed them. One of them then killed a girl for no reason. This woman had property of one of the victims on her.
You must understand. At Gawker, every criminal is a victim. It’s never the criminal’s fault. So, when you read this story and think “of course she got sentenced for murder” and make that comment, half the people here will come unglued.
No one was framed here. She had property of the victim on her. She participated in a felony to get it and someone died.
I wrote upthread that you can cite lots of examples where the justice system has gone off the rails, but this case isn’t one. This woman willfully participated in the armed robbery, was caught with stolen jewelry from that robbery, and someone died during their fun little night out on the town.
The headline is misleading because this girl was never charged with murder. She was charged with “felony murder” which is different. Basically, she agreed to act with others and commit a felony and someone died as a result so she gets charged with killing someone even though, as we all know, she didn’t actually murder…
She picked it up because stealing the property was the whole point of what they’re doing. She’s a thief that participated in a crime that got someone killed. She deserves the sentence she’s serving.
But she did help. They used a car to block the victims in a confined location while one of them robbed the girls and then shot one in the head. She was there and was caught with stolen property on her.
Meh, I think that there are many examples you could cite of “Justice Gone Bad” but this isn’t one. These women acted as a group and were out looking to rob people. They did. In the process, one of the victims was killed. This woman was caught with one of the victims’ property.
