as a torontonian i was really disappointed we weren’t even able to get a boutique or short-term release up here. would have loved to see my city pixar’ed on the big screen.

This is less Cars and more Zootopia. Instead of animals it’s the basic elements. It seems to have the same message too as far as tolerance, prejudice, diversity, etc.

I don’t know - Luca, Soul and Turning Red were all pretty good to great. Pixar made Cars before Disney came along. It’s unrealistic for *every* movie to be great.

Moana, Frozen and Encanto aren’t Pixar movies.

Those connections to our world seems to be the missing ingredient between the good ideas and the basic ones. And even then, the gimmick is a well they’ve gone to too many times. In fact, it’s devolved. Now it’s just: What if the afterlife in Soul is run like the 9-5 corporate businesses we recognize? What if the TVA

Are you being serious? The first three of those won Oscars, and Coco is universally beloved I would say.

I think what I find weird (and maybe this makes more sense in the context of the film), but most Pixar movies pull a similar trick of “imagine _____, but like a whole society/world of _____, walking around and going to work and stuff;” but there’s always some connection to our world, like you could lift a rock and see

Zootopia, except replace the expressive, lovable animal designs with weird blob people.

Meh. There are much worse films to have to sit through with your kids than middling Pixar. I recall having to sit through Chicken Little, which even my young child recognized was dreck.

i never really got past the premise with this one.

I would tend to agree with that, based on what Dennis Farina said after filming Get Shorty. He talked about a scene where he had to go in and rough up Gene Hackman’s character, but he was super intimidated because Hackman was a big dude even then, and just imposing in terms of gruffness, no-nonsense stuff, etc in

I completely believe Robert Downey Jr. when he says that Mel Gibson helped him during the lowest points of his life and helped him get sober.

I’m not surprised. I remember reading the stories about how when Gene Hackman was bullying Anderson on the set of Tenenbaums, Murray took it upon himself to go to set to keep watch because he knew Hackman wasn’t going to pull shit in front of him. Which I respect. But given everything else that’s come out about Bill,

What you can’t see in the photo is that he’s wearing a rubber monster claw on his left hand. Apparently the production ran out of white make up after Fiennes insisted they also do his buttocks.

That casting is all the more batshit given that Cox and Channing seem like they would be perfectly cast in their respective roles.

It’s not that a majority of people in their fifties watch the CW. A majority of the people that watch the CW are in their fifties. Unless your point was about the follies of presuming what the majority of people in their fifties want to watch… but that’s exactly what the person you were replying to was criticizing the

I think you misunderstood the post.

And yet, I’d be fascinated to see what Amy Seimetz’s version of this series would have been like.

At the very least it seems like an interesting conversation that should be led by and moderated by women.

The question of whether a woman 1. being hypersexualized for star / economic reasons is empowering if chosen by her; 2. is perhaps deluding herself that she’s choosing to be sexualized as opposed to just accepting it as the cost of fame; or 3. being manipulated into believing 1. is a very interesting conversation.
