One of the first things that got me thinking about the complexities of gender/sex was a Sports Illustrated article, of all places, that I read while waiting at the dentist’s office about ten years ago. It mentioned two athletes who were competing in female athletic competitions and only discovered much later in life

You’re confusing two different things here. Gender expression is how a person expresses their gender through look, behavior, interests, etc., not how they identify. So while many people may not be used to discussing gender with that terminology, if you think about it that way, it’s not a reach to say gender expression

Yep. I started to feel frustrated and confused by the storylines in season 3 and just stopped trying to make sense of the conspiracy stuff. Getting to great Tatiana Maslany scenes was the only thing that kept me watching. My pipe dream would be that they continue Orphan Black after the events of season 5 but it’s now

When put all together, the stuff in the opening paragraph sounds too insane to be true. Charlize Theron was in talks to do an $85 million Friday the 13th TV show for Peacock?!

Haha, this reminds me of Tatiana Maslany talk on a podcast about asking her mom if it was ok that she had a crush on one of the ninja turtles when she was a kid.

I had the opposite experience where I watched Turning Red two weeks before EEAAO so I had my emotional catharsis (re: complicated relationships with my parents that had recently been simmering) from Turning Red. When I watched EEAAO, it didn’t wreck me quite like Turning Red did, but I still cried plenty and recognize

Thank you!! Glad this is the top comment because I saw the sub-headline and immediately ran to the comments to remind everyone that Turning Red was an excellent recent Pixar release. It really sucks it didn’t get a regular theatrical release. Luca was wonderful too.

Have they gotten better about placing the ad breaks? I remember watching a movie on there (or maybe it was Pluto) a while back and they were just popping up every ten minutes in the middle of a scene.

I thought Random Rules (the one where interviewees talked about the first five songs that come up on shuffle for them) was a fun little peek into someone’s taste, but they abandoned that loooong ago and it could be difficult to do now with most people using streaming services rather than an iPod.

Well said. I’m fine with the “it was a different time” defense and I’m not stressing about this song, but it’s a bit sketchy for the reasons you stated. I’m genuinely taken aback by how many people here are going, “There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it!!”

I was like YES! when the killer finally went after the asshole guy.

Love Maria and I’m digging Scott’s artwork. Will be checking this out!

I tend to go on Tuesday nights (usually $5-7) or weekend matinees to avoid paying full price most of the time, but I know that’s not doable for everyone.

Skipped to the comments because I haven’t watched the new episodes yet, but will come back once I have. Glad this show is back!

Just as it’s Miller’s prerogative to ignore everything that came before when crafting a new story, it’s also fine to point out the holes. Some people enjoy puzzling things out and trying to make the pieces fit.”

I didn’t find the CGI distracting; it’s far from the worst offenders. Not the same amount of practical effects or action as Fury Road but still exciting and excelled in other aspects.

Glad to have Jesse and this feature back!

I will never not bring up how great Caroline Siede’s When Romance Met Comedy feature was when the opportunity presents itself.

Cool. Is this going to be a weekly thing? Sprinkled in over the weekend as you deep dive into more Mad Max trivia? Sporadic for big film releases?

Intriguing. Obviously I’m excited as someone who loved Los Espookys. Problemista was a big creative swing and fine film, but didn’t have much as an impact as me. I liked Julio Torres’ special so maybe it’s just that that movie didn’t click as much. But I am curious how different or similar it will be to Los Espookys wi
