I think I’m not as down on this season as you, but I agree the writing has been mediocre, especially plot-wise. They’ll throw in some moments that seem like they’d be important or something to build on but then nothing really happens with them. Also agree with being impressed by Kali Reis.

Eh, that scene didn’t bother me. Danvers and Navarro were already like, “we MUST get to the cave” but we don’t know what’s there, so Kate bringing it up is not revealing much. Hank being involved is the big reveal but I see that as a narrative choice rather than “telling not showing.” We don’t need to be discovering

At first I thought it was far-fetched for him to be killing a random guy to become Chief of Police of this tiny town, but the last couple episodes have underscored how little he has going on in his life so his desperation to have something makes sense.

Funny, last week’s episode was the one where I was feeling most frustrated, while this one kind of got me back on board. At least things were happening. I think there’s little chance that the mystery and story will get wrapped up in a satisfying way that makes all the dawdling worth it, so all I’m looking for now is

I think Navarro said something like “they’ll find his car, but not his body,” meaning Rose would help make his body disappear.

Looked pretty pink to me, but a dusty, somewhat muted pink. Watched back the scene where Danvers finds Otis and it was more muted than I thought, so maybe I was primed from it being described as pink in earlier episodes.

Young Prior did bring it up but too late. Given what we’d seen of their interactions before, Hank would probably be pretty hostile to Pete telling him what’s what so I could see Pete tiptoeing around the subject because he knows it won’t get anywhere.

I’m going to stick through it too, but setting my expectations very low for a satisfying ending. I was reading reviews from other publications as the ones here have been… lacking, and the pre-air season review from Paste said, “it feels as though the show ran out of time, resulting in a somewhat lukewarm finale that

Also side note: was it just me or did Otis look like cross between Willem Dafoe and Arnold Schwarzenegger?

For the love of what good is left in the show, someone PLEASE protect Qavvik from the spiral rock that Navarro dropped in his house (and presumably left there). If he ends up getting cursed because of it I’m going to be pissed.

Seems like giving a sketch a good ending has always been the trickiest part of sketch comedy, but jeez some of these really just petered out. I thought there would be more of a punchline to the narc students one, like they were being so extra to cover for the fact that they actually wanted to take shrooms. Instead it

This is perfect. They need to start breaking down the episode grades like this.

This felt like the classic SNL example of committed host, mediocre writing. I do agree with the review that the hypnotist sketch was the best, because it gave Ayo the opportunity to fully shine with a silly character (that was more realized than the similarly over the top narc character). I thought the couple

I’m rooting for SZA, but yeah, I doubt she could overcome Taylor Swift’s hype. Also, if Beyoncé couldn’t manage to join the tiny list of Black women to win AOTY, I don’t see what hope SZA has of being picked by the Recording Academy.

They also publish (non-video) interviews with interesting people every now and then, but they tend to have little engagement and get buried quickly.

I’m also glad to hear Maya Erskine acquits herself nicely. I was impressed with her dramatic chops in Plus One, so I’m interested to see more of what she can do beyond Pen15 (which to be clear, was an impressive performance too).

This was my least favorite of Flynn’s three books. I dunno if it was because it was the last one I read so I’d gotten tired of her schtick, or the plot just wasn’t as compelling to me. Still was a page turner but I don’t have much interest in revisiting it.

Yeah, I interpret it as Danvers believing that Leah forming a connection to her heritage instead of “moving forward” (as she sees it) as being harmful, but not realizing or caring about how making Leah disconnected to her family/culture is messing her up too. Like she’s thinking “white is right” but on a somewhat

Since it wasn’t brought up in the review—Danvers went to a gathering to mourn the stillborn child, yeah? Seems like she has a soft spot for young kids because of her son dying(??), similar to Navarro’s doggedness in cases with abused women. I wondered if she went to the gathering because of that striking a chord (she

My wild speculation: the “she” will have something to do with the legend that Pete’s kid drew the creepy drawing of (cut to grandma’s dramatic storytelling in a later episode), but that’ll be the spiritual interpretation while the scientific one will be the microorganism was “reawakened” by the project (perhaps by
