Seems like his being a cop is more of a recent thing and that she’s more annoyed about him being at Danvers’ incessant beck and call. But yeah, I was kinda like, “We get it!” Danvers sending a demanding all caps text at 3:30 am was a funny detail to me, though.

This one felt like the most overt horror homage with the orange rolling back, the scientist seemingly getting possessed, and the “quid pro quo” bit. I couldn’t help but cackle at the possession voice—The Exorcist/Exorcist III came to mind too—from a combination of the creepy surprise and how over the top demon-y it

Yeah… I’d say I’m pretty up on pop culture, though I don’t watch a lot of tv anymore. I know what The Boys is but would not have known Moriarty’s name, what she looks like now, or what she looked like 10 years ago. It is an odd choice, like does Megyn Kelly watch The Boys and hates her? Or Moriarty’s pictures came up

Agreed, Gosling/Ken definitely has the flashier role. Like America Ferrera was saying, Robbie’s performance is much more understated. When I was watching the movie, I was very tickled by Ken, but did think it was curious how central he was. Also his story felt more complete, while Barbie’s just kinda peters out into

Yeah, seemed like they were trying to make him the conservative foil that they’ve had in other cop pairings, but they went waaay too hard on it so he quickly became unlikable (I gave up after a few episodes so never witnessed the improvement).

Agree 100%. I think the last few seasons of the original run were also digital, but something with lighting and coloring changed in the new version that gave it a too glossy look and clashed with the slice of life vibe.

I liked original run Law & Order and had hoped that the reboot could live up to it, but yeah, it’s probably for the best that the good TV writers are doing other stuff now.

Good God, Lemon. I absolutely thought this was a joke because of that clunky title. I wonder how close they were to putting two colons in it.

But what if you have ancient unfrozen magic microorganisms in your blood, HMM? :p

I read that as familiarity from when they worked together, assuming she had Navarro working late (like with her new mentee) and showed up unexpectedly at her home with case information before.

I think the family relationships are: Liz is Leah’s stepmom. Leah’s cousin is Kayla (“she’s in the kitchen with our grandma”), who is married to young Prior. For now it’s unclear if the kid who’s in Liz’s flashback is her biological child or her husband’s kid from a previous relationship.

Now playing

Trying to move Miss Blankenship’s body out of view was a series highlight. Also: Joel Murray playing Mozart on his fly. The guy getting his foot run over by the partier riding a mower in the office. Peggy accidentally stabbing her boyfriend and then him breaking up with her in the ambulance. “SURPRISE, THERE’S AN

Oh my god, thank you for posting that. I had totally forgotten about this scene but was obsessed with it when it first aired.

Different awards show, but I was also puzzled to see May December in the comedy category at the Golden Globes.

Glad that weekly reviews are happening! Excited for this season and to recapture some of that old TV Club magic.

Eh, I think it’s bit early to be concerned about the male supporting characters being stereotypical when it’s just getting started. Other than the crab factory guy, we’ll probably get more shades of the #2 cop (John Hawkes does interesting work so I wouldn’t write off his character yet—he seems ripe to snap from

In her AV Club interview, Issa Lopez specifically mentioned wanting to tap into the ambiguous supernatural vibes of season 1:

It’s realistic though. Anecdotally, it seems pretty common among nerdy scientists living in relative isolation. I’ve heard of it being tradition on a research station on a remote island, and from googling I found an article that mentions watching The Thing as a winter tradition for the crew at the Amundsen-Scott South

Oh shit, good catch about the call from the Spanish-speaker that the secretary took. I think you’re gonna be right about that. I also figured he was recording a silly video for family/friends, but wasn’t sure whether he was broadcasting live or recording to send later since they seemed to imply internet was spotty
