It’s in line with her self-deprecating sense of humor. I think she still has enough pull that she can joke about not working without sounding desperate. “You can find me on Instagram, not posting,” is pretty funny though. I could also believe that the “I’ve got no job” is not entirely true; maybe she’s got some things

Good point. Because I like Alien so much more than Prometheus, I’m glad Hawley is leaning towards taking inspiration from there, but as a biologist, the “perfect predator” formed by evolution thing is an bit annoying. Nature has found some really remarkable ways to survive, but there are always tradeoffs—e.g. highly

Didn’t they also decide to all take their helmets off not long after landing on the planet? (Honestly can’t remember if that was Prometheus or Alien: Covenant.) I know people also poke fun at Charlize Theron running away from the giant rolling spaceship in the same direction it was traveling instead of veering off.

Interesting point, but I don’t think a slasher with a sci-fi mask would really be unexpected for the franchise when that is what the original movie is, just far better put together than Prometheus. Imo the problem is that it seems Ridley Scott/the writers also thought they were making serious sci-fi at times. I like

I would give the movie points if Statham’s character actually commanded bees and used them to kill people, but as far as I can tell, bees don’t play into the action at all.

I feel you. I was lucky enough to be able to go to a screening as it had a limited theatrical release in a few big cities. Since it was March 2022, I wore a mask and had to throw it away after because of how much I sobbed into it.

That’s fair. I’m not writing it off, it’s just that my interest was piqued and then immediately un-piqued, so I’m back to feeling neutral about it.

Good point, though the thinking probably went something like, “this movie sucks, so we’ll just dump it in January and save summer for more sure things

Ok, but Ayo Edebri also thanked her managers’ and agents’ assistants for answering her emails in her speech so she knows who the real heroes are.

“An 80-minute movie”—Oooh!

Haha, right?! Orientals and their weird names! !

Having not watched the Globes and only reading the quote you pulled, it doesn’t seem hard to get what the punchline was, although I did read his explanation first. Not that funny but hardly offensive. I could see rabid Swifties misinterpreting it as a diss though.

Great get and great interview. I was already pretty hyped for this because of Jodie Foster and Issa Lopez, and her bringing up The Thing and Alien as inspirations has me even more excited. I also liked her observation that this is the negative of season 1 by being female and cold, it’ll be interesting to see how it

Kali Reis isn’t Latina. Wikipedia says she’s of Cape Verdean and Native American ancestry, albeit northeastern tribes, and she seems in touch with her indigenous culture. Still not Inuit, but the active involvement of the Inupiat and Inuit producers seems like a good sign.

Ok, well now I *have* to post this parody that perfectly encapsulates the typical Taylor Swift fan conspiracy video:

To each their own, but I loved it

I think his point about the internet/videos on social media not allowing comedians to work on their jokes only applies to the super famous 5% or so. The rest can still toil away in relative obscurity. I saw Atsuko Okatsuka perform twice last year about six months apart, so there was some overlap in material but she

I thought it looked creepy and the involvement of James Wan has me intrigued, but I also think the premise sounds silly. This is among the more positive reviews; others I’ve seen are more middling to negative.

The people liking his tweet are probably mostly the Musk dorks who are dumb enough to stay with Twitter and pay for the blue checkmark.

This reminds me to go take my fiber supplements.
