In reverse, the cellphone made the home phone obsolete. You might say that if there's a particular iOS app you need you're going to have to get some kind of iOS device. But if you need an Android app you could just run it anywhere.

But aren't there some apps on other ecosystems that you wish you had?

If it means that Android apps would run on the Chrome browser it could be a losing proposition for Google. By default every computer with Chrome would run their apps and people might lose the incentive to invest in Android tablets and phones.
