This whole thing is silly. Like, first off, it was a joke. Secondly, the joke is qualified with him adding “that he’s ever been to.” It’s a personal opinion. He didn’t state it as some kind of fact. Even if it wasn’t a joke, it’s still his personal experience; you don’t know where else he has or hasn’t been.

People want to argue demographics, and stats, etc. But Boston is the only major city I know of that has that kind of humblebrag attitude about being racist.

As a wypipo and a Southerner who has spent quite a bit of time in Boston, I respectfully disagree. Yankees may be more up front and (M)assholish about their racism, but I don’t think they can touch the institutionalized racism endemic in many Southern cities.
