Every month there’s a story involving some guy trying to impress his wife or wife-to-be with a bungled marriage proposal or gender reveal party. These incidents range from the unfortunate (this story) to the catastrophic (gender reveal party explosion igniting the Arizona brushfire).
How are some people talented at everything? You can’t be beautful, naturally talented, a good writer, relaxed and all that shit. It’s not fair to the rest of us. *Siiiggggghhh*
You’re right. I’m sure he did that Nike campaign gratis.
(And by the way, don’t worry: You don’t sound racist at all.)
Imagine being such an asshat you make people feel sorry for Kim Kardashian.
It’s not uncommon for families controlled by an abusive man to have many children. It’s hard to get away if you’re constantly pregnant, nursing, and enmeshed in childcare.
You would not believe how many people don’t give a single fuck about your pregnancy/labor PTSD and pressure you to have more kids.
It’s perfectly legit for Kim to be worried about her body autonomy, or Kanye’s confusing and probably frightening and misleading effect on their kids.
“We in America are misinformed,” he said. “Reality shows have warped our idea of what a hero is, or what the truth is.”
90210 were BRILLIANT on birth control. Still scorched on my mind ... Brenda and Dylan have just started going out and are maybe going to do it ... Brenda talking to Kelly, who’s just passed her a condom from her own bedside supply: B: “condoms? they’re so clinical”. K: “No dear. Abortions are clinical.” BOOM. :)
“Sabrina seems built for a much younger audience—maybe even children.”
“She realizes that becoming a full witch also means surrendering your autonomy (and not to mention literal virginity) over to Satan himself.”
At the risk of being banned, I will take issue with your claim that today is “a space in which witches have never been more politically charged”—um, what about when even the accusation of witchcraft was used to silence, ostracize, imprison, and kill women?
This show is explicitly about Sabrina rejecting the patriarchal system of hell. Are you saying patriarchy shouldn’t be depicted in the media?
I’m glad you mentioned his other podcast, which relieves me a bit. I have been a fan, but my sense of the radio work that aired in america (This American Life, etc) is that part of his brand/charm is his way of pointing out the slight (and sometimes major) absurdities of his subjects—and his own—not sure how that…
This article really pissed me off. It never even says the name of the podcast. I thought it was a second season, since that is what the trailer came up under, but I guess the new one is separate; The End of August. But anyway it doesn’t really seem like doing a second podcast about the collision of two topics you…
I agree - he seems to be a very compassionate writer and journalist. I get the feeling the OP (and possibly the article’s author) are just going off a few grabby, clickbait headlines. I’ve been enjoying his books for (yikes!) 20-ish years, and think highly of his ethical treatment of his subjects.
He has already done a podcast series on the porn industry called The Butterfly Effect. It was very well done. I guess I can see why that one got ignored, but this one is getting more attention because it’s focusing on a single person? I will probably listen to this. His other podcast series was good, and I felt like…
