Malcolm Gladwell is tackling issues of memory on his podcast presently. The long and short of it is, it appears to be VERY EASY to begin to believe things contrary to your own lived experience (ie, you remember your own actions differently than actually occurred, even when there’s no reason to lie).

Agreed. Joanna recaps more stuff, please!

It’s such a strange game show to someone like me, used to game shows that won’t risk the audience’s apathy by writing a question that’s too hard. It’s also odd to see one that allows such randomness, no way would a US game show ever allow a question to go on the air without producers debating every possible answer.

You know, I really wish I could BeBest, but since families are being torn apart at the border while Ms. Complicit gets to hug her children without fearing for their lives, I just can’t.

I’m having a shitty morning life and this is the first thing that made me smile thus far today. I absolutely LOVE how upset it makes them! It truly makes me’ ol’ heart sing....like this gif.

The pearl-clutching that crawls out when the alt-right seeks a tit-for-tat takedown is hilarious and sad. Their is no actual belief behind their poutrage, it is just for show.

when my ex called off our wedding, i kept the ring. he was at least smart enough to not ask for it back. and i sold it for twice as much as he paid for it.

They are so incredibly BORING! It’s just an endless cycle of babies, exes, and twitter drama. They need to reinvent themselves or go away. Preferably the latter, but we all know that’s not going to happen.

Meanwhile, my country, the USA, has been outright highjacked by religious zealots selling the jizz of the anti-Christ as the balm that will solve everyone’s problems. Congrats Ireland, you’re better than the United States, because you have empathetic, intelligent voters.

Damn, I heard that the results were a landslide, but this really puts that into perspective.

A grassroots feminist and progressive campaign completely changed public opinion, forced politicians into a position where the only option was to support it, and overthrew the Catholic Church. Yeh, pretty proud of that. I might even buy my friends and family who were involved in organising some chocolate medals now

So let me get this straight. The Irish people identified a problem, voted on it, and now their Constitution is changed, just like that? That’s so weird. It kind of reminds me of this thing I used to hear about growing up in America. I think it was called... democracy?

I imagine your country is absolutely perfect, yeah? And whenever your country has succeeded in overturning an unjust law, you celebrate by dire reflection on your failures because that’s helpful and motivating.

I’m overjoyed at this news.

I’m in Cork East constituency, I voted before half 8 yesterday morning and they didn’t release the official results for us until half 6 this evening. It was a fantastic turnout everywhere I’m so happy that it was such a decisive victory, I was worried there were a lot silent Nos but it seems the people staying quiet

Now playing

So proud to be Irish today. It’s been a long time coming but that was one hell of a resounding yes. The gay marriage result of 62% for yes in 2015 was a stunning victory; I still can’t believe yes to repealing the 8th came in higher at 66.4%. Everybody back home was blown away at the size of the yes vote when the

After the atrocities of the Magdalene laundries, human trafficking, and pedophilia, the Catholic Church has zero standing to engage in any debate about women and children’s rights from now until forever.

a rare spot of good news. i’ll take it!
