I was in New York from Europe in September. I was so conscious of ensuring we gave a decent tip as I’m aware of the shitty wages but 20% sounds like more than I might have realised I should tip and now I’m horrified.

“If I told you his name, you’d know who he is.”
An update as few days have passed although the dust is far from settled, I thought this was something that would be of interest to the Jezebel audience.
No I didn’t but I know the on every of the jurors has basically been doing Q&As on media platforms and I think they’re in hot water now.
#suemepaddy might be one of the better things to emerge from this. What an entitled, cocky little dickhead. Also Aodhán O’Ríordain is the woke bae of my dreams and the type of politician we deserve.
That is infuriating. I know all hearsay in these cases needs to be considered carefully but that makes my blood boil when Paddy Jackson was praised by his lawyer for his consistency. That won the case apparently.
And apparently that witness was one of the key deciding factors. I think she said she couldn’t say that the person didn’t look like she wasn’t consenting (sorry I think that’s a triple negative!). One of the theories put forward in court, based in part by the witness, was that the woman had a reason and felt…
I hope you’re right about the referendum but I am so fearful. I don’t think it’s going to be as straightforward (although it did not feel that way at the time!) as the Marriage Referendum.
One other thing*, if there’s anyway to scrape any semblance of positivity out of this, and I’m not sure this is even enough, I hope this case means every parent in the land are sitting down with the children and having age appropriate discussions about consent and respect.
Oh some other lovely details of this case; the jury was nine men and three women. And for some soothing nighttime reading, read the WhatsApp exchanges. Just kidding, definitely do not because they were disgusting. Animals.
I’ve had to avoid but the small amount I’ve seen is disgusting. It’s particularly upsetting when it’s women defending these poor boys whose lives could be ruined.
Yep
Thanks for covering this Prachi. The narrative around this case has been horrendous. As soon as the verdict was announced people were trying to dox the victim, called her a lying slag, cheering for the acquitted lads, all the classic hits. My “favourite” being “you lost ladies, have to accept the verdict” to a woman…
I agree completely with you but I hate all of them in equal amounts and I hope wherever they go for the rest of their lives this will follow them around like a spectre.
I sent this tip at the start of the trial and again today after the verdict. I don’t think it’s going to be covered. I get rape cases happen all the time but rape cases involving international sport stars don’t and I thought it would be of interest. I guess it doesn’t matter because it’s not America....
Exactly. Exactly! I have imprinted on him and now do I want to love him or love him?
I now never refer to Timmy without saying “my boyfriend and my son”. To the point I fear this doxxes me.
Thank you because I didn’t know how to google for the shapes my face was making when I read the word “Renéessance” but I found it and here we are.
It offends me also seeing all these conservative politicians with Irish surnames in the White House actively working to oppress others and harm immigrants and their communities.
