Right? That's what I thought too. I loved that she used the villains' assumptions about women to her advantage. Plus, knowing that she trained as hard as she did for the role is really kickass. All in all, I just expected sexy sexy Scarlett and got a lot more than that, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Uh, okay. You go right ahead with your arguing. You're still just telling me the same thing over and over again.

Whoa! How did I miss this?? Rewatching Ghost Protocol this weekend!

Really? That makes me sad. I thought Black Widow was an absolute badass, especially the way she managed to get Loki to confess his intentions while on the ship. Although maybe I've set the bar low, since I'd rather a female superhero kick at least one ass than just stand there looking hot.

I would go on with this discussion if you were making any points relevant to Avengers. But you're not. While I've explained why the portrayal of poverty was not offensive in this movie, all you've said is that the critique is valid because many other films have used the "White man helps the poor" trope, and if some

Yeah... I remember this scene. I kept hoping it would never end!

I keep clicking on Avengers' articles here on Jezebel just to find supahot gifs/images of the male heroes.

Obviously, your need to defend the critics is way stronger than my need to explain why they suck.

The people that criticized would have felt the need to criticize no matter what happened. If Bruce had gone there to hang out with the rich people (which would have never happened b/c they would have turned him in) they would have criticized. They'd have called him selfish, just like all other "selfish Americans". So

Oh my god. Okay, yes, India is depicted as poor very often. Yes, Hollywood depicts many other places as inherently poor. Yes, it is problematic. However, for this movie, and I am just making it clear that I am talking specifically about this movie since this article is talking about this movie, this wasn't something

Yes, you're right. I just think people should find more worthwhile things to be offended about.

CinnamonMocha right above you gave an example of a million dollar budget film that showed India as wealthy. And it wasn't showing a contrast either.

My point is that there is also a string of movies that show India as wealthy, and nobody complains about that. A greater point is that the movie was never about India in the first place.

Um, I'm a woman and I had wanted to watch it tor a while. I even attended a marathon that showed all the Avengers movies. But way to stereotype.

You'll be okay. Although if you want to be caught up, you can go to a 14-hr marathon with all movies like I did ;)

So in your mind our subconscious stores all images of India as a poor country but none as a country that also contains rich people? Because I've seen both. Honestly we all know that India is populated with rich AND poor people. It just made more sense for Banner to be hiding in the slums. This movie was in part about

Yeah the whole "white savior" thing wasn't even a thing. It's evedent in the movie that his main priority is staying well hidden.

Yeah because ONE movie will completely lead us to believe that a country that exports its own great films is all around poor. Come on. Avengers was a great movie. Must we ALWAYS find something to complain about??

Yeah, she definitely is!
