Native Californian as long as you’ve been here, and I could not agree more. Growing up, “Smog Days” were a real thing. The old adage of “I don’t trust air I can’t see” should never be repeated by future generations. Much better now.
You’re a fool. We have the most homeless because we have the most liveable outdoor conditions.
CARB was passed under a Republican governor in 1967. One of the reasons was because the air quality in Southern California became quite unhealthy.
Its really not about the fuel efficiency or the environment. Its about the fossil fuel industry protection.
You neglect to mention that California also has, by far, the largest economy of any of the 50 states, vastly outperforming any other state and makes up a huge portion of the total U.S. GDP.
California has the largest population of any state, so OF COURSE it has the most homeless and poor people. God, you are transparent in your bullshit.
“California is part of a union”
And yet morons like you seem to want to take away my state’s rights, reduce the rate of our representation federally, and force us to subsidize states full of people like you that unduly hate us.
Fuck off. People like you are always telling Americans how we are supposed to be as you live…
I remember having one of those classic Calvin & Hobbes moments as a kid, reading some ancient (1930s-era) editions of Hardy Boys books from the local library. “Wait, hold on, you can buy dynamite at the hardware store? Mom, can we go to the hardware store?”
California set their laws before the federal government because smog was starting to block the sun.
Or you can all stop being fascists and let California dictate its own regulations.
If other states weren’t so shitty, they’d have the population and economies to support setting the standards.
If you had gone to LA during the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s you would understand why. The air was as thick as chunky peanut butter.
Edit: California has completely different weather and population density from most of the country. The same standards for pollution for (insert any flyover state) simply are not workable for the Greater Los Angeles Metro Area, with 19,000,000 people and a very distinct climate. I’ve lived here for 40 years, and the…
Kind of. I moved here 7 years from Atlanta and I can tell you the difference in the quality of air is astounding. Do we have to pay more for gas and maybe a bit more for a new car? Maybe, but I personally enjoy not living in a smoggy wasteland.
January 20th, 2020. Not a day before (because then we’d be stuck with Pence, who is just as bad if not worse).
I totally support their (and other states) right to enact environmental laws above and beyond what the US is willing to do. Mainly because of bullshit like we’re seeing now.
I love to give California shit for lots of things but they have unique challenges that other states do not have to deal with. Ocean adjacent with mountain regions creates for particular air circulation or sometimes lack there of, combined with shitty traffic and lots of cars in many cities. Fuck them for not wanting…
Except what Trump is offering now is anything *but* predictability. As soon as a new president comes in, he or she will be able to slap the standards back into place, creating a marketplace where some manufacturers continued to try to follow them, and others didn’t.
They sure do and they seem to have coped with different standards in California perfectly well up to now, seeing as how said standards were as clear as any other.
Sounds about right for the California DMV to have one application but to have not yet reviewed it.
