He's replaced "fields of wheat" with gaudy neon but people are still complaining about the fucking wheat.

You're blind if you think Lubezki is penned in at all in these films. Some of the most radical image making in contemporary cinema, far exceeds the more rote and expected showiness of his films with Inarritu or the last couple of Cuaron movies.

More likely that money is going to go to catered receptions for somebody's brother's foundation or to a start-up fund for somebody's niece's cupcake business.

Sure your fantasy world ideal auteur unfettered by budgetary constraints would for sure not be "self-indulgent" meanwhile on earth and not pointless speculative earth we have a filmmaker doing what everybody wants their auteurs to be doing, i.e. making actual, difficult, idiosyncratic ART without a care for either

Is there another major filmmaker who inspires as much ire among supposed film lovers these days as Malick? Despite what a cursory scroll through internet chatter would tell you, To the Wonder and Knight of Cups have more than a handful of ardent defenders (I'm one) and if he hadn't been "the guy who directed Badlands

Dirty Grandpa may not be to all tastes but it is absurd to pick Aubrey Plaza's performance as one of the worst of the year.

In a production the size of Jason's, shooting on film isn't drastically more expensive than shooting on video (and in some cases can be cheaper!) What's more likely is that either certain key crew members HBO has lined up aren't equipped with the knowledge to shoot on film or (my guess) HBO has sponsorships with RED

Beautiful piece Ignatiy.

Didn't read the story, but this is the American remake of the identically titled Claire Denis movie, non? In which case, which of these two is getting fucked with a corncob?

I figured he just brought one can to show them the label to back up his comment about the print being unsubtitled. Also, a lot of Japanese archival prints are cut at 1K instead of 2K which would account for the slightness of the reel.

As somebody who works in a repertory cinema, Hawk and Chick had me dying. Dominic is about as sympathetic a portrayal print collectors and cinephiles are gonna get on network television.

His suggestion that Bob break the ice with Yuki by pretending to rob her had me in tears.

Yes, but is Giuseppe Andrews returning? Does Roland Emmerich have something against trailer trash too????

Dental DAMN GURL

Locations are pretty remarkable, although it's nearly impossible to tell because of Potrykus's completely indifferent framing. Perhaps more accurately, Buzzard is "shot in itchy long takes with some of the ugliest camerawork America has to offer."

Quick quiz, how many people here think "lean" is Robitussin and Sprite???

Codeine is not OTC and it's not the active ingredient in Robitussin (that would DXM, a dissociative, not an opiate.) Listening to the band Codeine while tripping on Robitussin would be awful.

Adore's Ben puppet is the one that made me laugh the most, just because Ben is perhaps the hardest queen left on the show to impersonate (despite Ben's assertion that it's Bianca) and Adore totally nails her milquetoast monotone.

According to those same folks who know Laganja, she was supposed to make it to the top three or four. Wouldn't trust anything Laganja says and especially wouldn't trust third hand reports on the internet of things Laganja supposedly said.

Actually, Eustache only started writing for Cahiers after the completion of his major works, so he doesn't count…
