You need to add basic cooking to the mix. I am astounded by my fellow adults that can't cook something if it doesn't come in a box with instructions. You can save a lot of money if you understand a few basics, and it will take you far.

That sounds weird and easy to confuse. I just think it's multiplying by ten and then dividing by two, which is correct — 5 is half of 10.
No, because multiplying by ten and then dividing by two makes more sense. It also takes away the nebulous concept of 'moving the decimal place' which is really just another way of saying multiply by ten.
I'll admit I've never been the biggest math guy, but little tricks like this are always pretty neat.
