All good. I think we need more sails on container ships to lower fuel consumption. I wouldn’t trust myself to fly a 1/4 mile wide spinnaker off the bow of a cargo ship, but someone out there must be an expert!

You’re missing my point, and being unnecessarily rude at the same time. Fellow mechanical engineer here with GE Gas Turbine design and development experience, so no need to call me names.
These torque and HP numbers are bonkers, but they pale in comparison to large gas turbines. Check out the GE 9H if you want to have your mind blown. They are easily the most complicated machines mankind has ever built.
The 2-stroke designs might just reduce total emissions versus a 4-stroke design. I’m not 100% on that, but my education and design work on large engines makes me thing that’s a 99% likelihood. To know for certain you’d have to run various trade studies on ship designs, fuel consumption, and cargo weights, but I don’t…
Cost. Just cost. #2 bunker fuel is garbage fuel, and many of these boats run on oils like that. The only thing lower in the oil refinement pecking order is asphalt, and we like to drive on that.
No, that’s not true at all. You’re conflating consumerism with poor engine efficiency, and that argument doesn’t hold water.
I just installed a Porsche 944 engine on an engine hoist last weekend. We used a wimpy little ratchet strap to lift it. That weight is well within the limits of most ratchet straps, and far easier to use than some of the chain options out there.
My 944S2 was nabbed last year and it was a fretful situation. I got it back though. :)
My 944S2 was stolen last fall and I got it back. Not much worse for the wear, although the little dings added up to about $7K for the insurance company payout. :)
LOL! Get real.
This guy has big ambitions.
Fix the effen airbag system in my 944S2. I believe the warning light is related to the lap counter/clock in the dash, but that might just be me trying to find something to hate on.
Inroads are being made on aircraft too, but yes... definitely a work in progress.
Jason, I’m noticing a distinct connection between my youtube feed and your youtube feed. Admittedly, your analysis of Youtube videos is obviously more interesting than my take of “hmm, that’s cool”.
Late January 2021 outside of Flagstaff, AZ we got stuck in snow and road-ice that shut down the interstate. Once we started moving again, most of the semis stayed put because of ice on the steep downhills. I had steered into the left lane to pass a stopped big rig when I began a long descent. I was focused on keeping…
Ward, I think you were a little hard on the Beaver.
Your post is incredibly misleading. Here’s the stat you should know. Not that garbage misinformation you posted.

Make a clear point instead of misleading innuendo.
Huh? This is a lame argument. The entire damned country seems to care what everyone else is doing. One crazy group recently stormed out capital because they didn’t like what they thought others were doing. Keep your politics out of this.
