It’s a lot of fun to drive, and that was before I found all the vacuum leaks! Only drawback is the auto, but the manual swap is incredibly easy...

I’m slowly fixing all the issues on this beast. Was hoping to get it back on the road this weekend, but a rubber coupler sleeve between the throttle and intake plenum is too big... stupid PO.

I’ve never thought of MOMO wheels as a real option for a street-legal car. The only MOMO wheels I ever ran across were at FabCar USA when I interned there in the late 90s. Someone tossed a centerlick wheel to me with a tire mounted to it. Must have been over 10” wide, and about 16” in diameter. I probably could have

Agreed. Plus, how the hell is someone supposed to go from “observing” to “actively controlling” fast enough to avoid an accident like this? That’s a huge switch in mental focus if you’re not actively driving.

Damn, you sure wrote a misinformed post. Might be time to apologize and shut up.

A 450cc street legal dirt bike sounds awesome! A 2 gallon tank is sufficient out of the box, but I’d likely swap on a 4 gallon aftermarket, and probably mount a rack and tank bag. That’d let me travel with it (already do with my DRZ400s) on tarmac and dirt to set up a base camp and rip around afterwards.

I had a 2002 Jetta TDI as well. Lots of replacement parts on that car, including a new auto trans. 45mpg was nice, but $5k for a non rebuildable trans pretty much eliminated the savings.

Wow, RN being a jerk again. What a surprise.

Thanks for the link!

Agreed. I briefly looked around for a rear axle with an integrated motor and didn’t find one. Sounds like a potential business, depending on how large the addressable market is, but their shortcut is a great way to enter the market.

Good point. The engine and trans won’t have any further value while the rear axle would. However, there’s still cost in mounting the electric motor, installing a new driveshaft, and upsizing the motor and battery due to the added driveline loss of the rear differential. Seems like a rear axle with an integrated motor

This is great to see! Really looking forward to seeing these on the road.

It’s gotta be the brake pumping demonstration I got for driving in the snow. Repeatedly slamming on the brakes with full force as fast as you can doesn’t a fast snow stop make...

Really? More of the “hug” lines? You’re recycling tired content.

No, that’s wrong. You’re responding directly to what I’m saying, not ignoring it. Hence your replies. Your prior comment is still a non sequitur too.

Non sequitur.

Nope. Thanks for continuing to display your demeaning reactions to damned near every post I read by you though. What is it about you that so badly wants to demean everyone else? Just acting out over the internet?

Exactly! Yeah, I typed too quickly, but you see the issue here. Others can bear responsibility for actions, not just the person undertaking the action.

Typically applies to policing other engineers, but lawsuits get lodged on the stupidest shit. Regardless, take care of those around you.

These kind of comments don’t help anything. Also, if a professional engineer (PE) were to see what this guy built, and knew it was unsafe, then that PE could be held liable for the casualty if no effort was made to educate the owner or, possibly, to alert authorities.
