I read Flowers in the Attic at around the same age because my mom had it and I would read basically anything.

The racism and other isms in stuff like the Little House and Emily Starr (same author as the Anne of Green Gables books) was kinda shocking once I got old/perceptive/informed enough to realize it was there

Incidentally: feeling tense or guilty because you are white and live in a culture where systemic racism exists is not on the same level as having heightened fear for your life because you’re of color

The description of him wearing linen and khaki and cotton sometimes made me wonder if he was going for this old-school colonialist explorer vibe. Pictures don’t really bear that out though.

As a white person: why do non-racist white people deserve to feel no tension?

It’s unnerving how much he looks like Martin Shkreli:

Honestly that players can’t benefit from jersey sales is probably the thing that grinds my gears the most about this. It’s top 5, anyway

the only golf post I will ever star

Yeah, it’s just ... wrong that we’re not reading about his overgrown manchild shenanigans in Dirt Bag or being nostalgically amused by whatever his life/career or lack thereof is now.

Am I the only one who thinks of Jonathan Brandis and then gets sad whenever SeaQuest is mentioned? Yes, I’m an old, for certain values of “old.”

Take your star, you sick bastard. *adds starring this to the list of things I’d be going to hell for if it were real*

“Decent country club lady” is an exquisite choice of words ... given the historically exclusionary stance of many country clubs.

I was assuming there was someone watching who would throw them off the property and possibly out of the press pool if they tried.

So that was enough to kill his book contract, too. Huh.

The thing that confuses me is that they let his name out without a firm agreement that he would take the job. Or maybe they “agreed in principle” and THEN he found out that he wouldn’t be able to choose his subordinates? This makes the admin look even more inept.

I used to roll my eyes a few years ago every time some nerd on the Internet quoted this to me, but you know what? Good. Let the Republicans and compliant/complicit Democrats and others fear mockery, bad press, and the verbal anger and incivility of their constituents. They’ve earned it.
