Ants and crickets are genuinely fine - mostly flavourless (some ants can be a bit spicy), they’re just crunchy and taste like whatever seasoning you put on them. Other bugs take more work (spider in particular, imo). I suppose an actual apocalypse will make us all a lot less fussy.

Honestly, that's probably exaxtly what will happen. But it doesn't let people enjoy the sensationalist factor that currently gets people to try eating them. It's the same with more mainstream meat - people don't hesitate to eat pork chops, but also don't want a pig's head on the table.

Social media definitely became performative with its grieving of famous dead people. A lot of canned “so sad to hear” and “thoughts and prayers” over the years. People got mad if someone well-known didn’t mention about another known person’s death on Twitter or Instagram.
