Pee Wee Herman was originally created at the Groundlings as a bad standup character improv. It ran at midnight there for quite some time until it grew too big for the 99 seat theatre and moved to the Roxy.

Let's not forget this one stolen from the Sunday Company as well, which also kept the same name…:
