Question - I have albinism. Although I’m fortunate and have some pigment and vision, I’ve always been curious as to whether or not there would ever be a genetic “cure” for me. Is this something that might possibly be in the future with CRISPR, or is it only for embryos?

I don’t know. Maybe doing something practical instead?

To Ivan, from Ivan: Thanks.

Considering that Comcast still charges a $10 per month HD fee to upgrade from SD to HD, my guess is that everyone is in for a world of hurt.

Having just bought a Lenovo Flex 3, I did exactly this. Formatted, got a clean ISO for Windows 8.1, installed it. The UEFI (new BIOS) stores your key, so I had no trouble activating. The one issue is that I needed to install Lenovo’s OneKey software to get some of the drivers related to battery/power management. Their

Again, since there is a cost to generate the content I want to see, the method used to generate the necessary funding does impact me as a user. You seem to take that entirely for granted, and assume content will always be there regardless of funding. Frankly, that’s very naive. As much as I dislike the ads, it comes

I’m sorry that Gawker’s own words and reasoning, as specifically stated in their published articles linked earlier, are less than satisfactory for you. Clearly, Gawker was just totally wrong in explaining why Gawker made decisions impacting Gawker’s commenting system, when all the decisions were clearly made solely by

You’ve been insisting that there are lots of ways to fund content, yet the only other alternative you gave to the advertising/paywall dilemma is to just lose money like Twitter. I’d be very happy to be convinced that you are correct if you can share some examples.

You and I may be looking at different Google results. I did your search, and only came up with one result that included a 225 slide PowerPoint.

Gawker Media owns Jezebel, and Gawker instituted the pending comment strategy across all of their platforms. Jezebel was certainly involved and one of the blogs that sorely needed something, but I don’t believe it was solely a Jezebel decision.

Other than having either advertisers or users subsidize the cost for worthwhile content, what other models are there that you’ve found less unpleasant?

Aren’t racist trolls like this the reason Gawker implemented the whole “grey comment” thing? I’m surprised this made it into the black...

You know what’s even worse? When the ad blocker companies allow advertisers to pay to have their ads pass through anyway. The ad blockers are just mafioso thugs at that point and it’s a dastardly business model. Plus, the advertisers then have to pay both the media serving the ads as well as the blocker. Screw ad

How a website I visit earns revenue is absolutely a concern. Hiding content behind a paywall versus feeding me content for free subsidized by ads is a very different experience. I’d prefer ads. Certainly there are more than just those two models, but it all impacts me as a user. Therefore, it’s a concern.

Counterpoint: I live without an ad blocker and am mostly very happy. I prefer for advertisers to subsidize the content I read instead of having to shell out cash myself.
