No. Leonard’s prose, and particularly his dialogue, is masterful. Google “Elmore Leonard” and you’ll find everybody from the New Yorker to the Atlantic to Stephen King to the New York Review of Books saying that there’s no better American crime writer, with the possible exception of Raymond Chandler.

If you’d read the article you’d have noted that it spends quite a few words on the distinction between ‘people’ and ‘person,’ and that Wise is NOT actually arguing that chimps are ‘people,’ and therefore you might notice that your position and Wise’s aren’t as far apart as you’re implying.
