You would be surprised. Prints are destroyed/lost/stolen,all the time. I have a friend who's the programming director for a theatre, and this is a big issue for him. He booked a Vincent Price movie a couple of years ago and had to show one real from the DVD because the theatre that had it before him threaded it wrong…

As much as I've loved his last two movies, I want to see Tarantino do straight up science fiction. I think his take on the genre would be a lot of fun. I don't think we could get a space opera out of him, but a Blade Runner-esque cyberpunk story would be cool.

I want to pay for it, but I don't want to pay $10 for a two day rental, when the blu ray will likely not be much more than that. If a theatre near by gets it, I'll go. Otherwise, I guess I'll wait.

Great article and I more or less agree with it. Regarding who's fantasy it is, the good guy wins, and the bad guys lose. That is a fantasy all people can get behind. And at the screening I attended, it was.
