I actually loved 'As Above, So Below' and am willing to fight someone in a parking lot about it.

But at least those actual days of VHS were FUN.

Ti West, upon a quick googling, looks exactly how I thought he might, which is to say, every white kid in film school.

I have a huge soft spot for Honeymoon, mostly because I went in plot-blind and was pleasantly surprised.

Totally agreed about the Paranormal Activity theater experience, especially how integral it was to have good sound. Definitely not the same as watching it at home. I feel like a lot of these lists are dismissive of horror films as a shared experience a well as art. The Ring was a box-office success because it had a

Ti West, finally beating me to death after making me wait two hours even though I knew he was going to do that from the very beginning: I AM REINVENTING THE HORROR GENRE.

I think its the really simple digital tricks that put it above most found-footage horror, other than say, [REC] or Blair Witch. The fast-forward time lapses, the increase in sound during the night scenes, the camera on the fan, etc.

you appear to feel Some Sort of Way about this film, i see.

yeah I get the feeling Ti West has already kinda shot his wad on what he has to show us, but I could be wrong.

It does have some jump scares especially during the night scenes, but what it did really well was just keep the audience in a constant sense of dread just by showing small things (like the lapse of time or the dissolve to a title card showing that it was now night) and also showing the complete dissolve of the

Definitely would have slipped in [REC] or The Conjuring over Martyrs, and The House of the Devil is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too high, even if it is enjoyable.

Paranormal Activity's rewatch factor has diminishing returns but that first in-theaters viewing was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. It was terrifying in the moment.

Who's the best.

I would have really loved to have seen the "God is Trying to tell You Something" scene from The Color Purple.Or really any scene where Margaret Avery got to perform.

I've actually always found Anderson to be an enjoyable actor, usually one of the best things about the stuff he's been in. I'm excited for this.

Keep on…..tranglin',
Larry Pat.
