I wouldn't call Gore Verbinski a hack. I'll be charitable and call him a hit-or-miss director. He helped save Pirates of the Caribbean from being a trainwreck from the beginning (granted, it turned into a trainwreck about 3, but that's neither here nor there) and Rango is gloriously weird and entertaining as hell.
