In Washington in the juvenile justice system you basically have 2 options. Take a guilty plea and have it expunged off of your record after 7 years or plead not guilty and your case get bumped up to adult court. The system is horribly designed.

The obvious guess is that he was probably being threatened by a prosecutor with being tried as an adult if he didn’t plea out.
