I got to see her years ago at the Silver Skate festival in Edmonton. It was amazing. Better live than on a CD.

I worked as a baker in a grocery store that was supposed to be high end but did the cheapest, shadiest shit... Anyway, it had a kitchen area and would serve hot meals.
I worked in a bakery and there were a couple of old regulars who liked to butter date squares. I always thought it was odd. They would also butter cinnamon buns though if those were warmed up, a pool of butter would form under them.
This is crazy. Now, I'm not a huge McDonalds advocate, but when I worked in one I had a very good experience until we got a new store manager and even then it was not the worst place I have worked in. I wonder if it is different in Canada? The pay wasn't too shitty either; it was better than the other fast food…
The Kobe and Wagyu beef thing drives me crazy. In Canada at least, it is never actually from Japan. It is not what they say it is. It is actually in the 'style' of Wagyu beef. It is not worth the huge price they charge. It's not much better than normal Alberta beef. Wagyu and Kobe beef is illegal to import because of…
I had the opportunity to actually try black truffle once. I... Was not blown away. It tasted kind of like musty wood.
I must know!
Yup, I learned during my baker's certificate course that some types of food poisoning can take a couple MONTHS to make you sick. This is why it is so hard to track it. It just... Waits. *dramatic music*
Kefalotyri cheese is the shit. BUT! It must be eaten hot. It is horrible cold. If you go to a greek restaurant, get it. Fried cheese with lemon. Om nom nom nom...
Actually, a lot of frozen fish you get inland is fresher than non-frozen fish you would get by the ocean. The reason is is that it is cleaned and then flash-frozen in the ship and remains that way until it gets to the restaurant. Some of the unfrozen seafood you get in fish markets has sat for a couple days in a…
I know! I had heat exhaustion a couple times from an old job that was about 40C where I worked and we were expected to wear heavy uniforms too with no air conditioning. I had had heat exhaustion before and knew what to do. I didn't feel like sitting in a medi-centre for several hours for a doctor to tell me to lie…
I worked in a cafe/bakery that could be quite bad about letting sick/hurt employees get enough time off to heal.
Only rural Alberta. The cities are generally full of normal people. Rural Alberta can be some scary ass place though, depending on the town.
Not all fondant is gross. We make our own fondant a the bakery I work at out of marshmallows. Tasty, but sweet. Store bought fondant is gross, which is what 99% of bakeries use.
Ah... Royal icing. The glue of the baking world.
Those glasses are back... *shudders*
Whew, I can imagine. I just put 64 orchids on a wedding cake. No idea how much those would cost. Looked nice, though.
I don't understand giant, extravagant weddings, but I am a practical person. However, I am a baker and crazy wedding cakes (and redonkulous 1st birthday cakes) are kind of what pay my bills so...
Edmonton? Famoso is marvellous.
Yeesh... Sounds like what my stepmonster is going to turn into. She shrieked at me when I was a kid after I didn't say, 'Bless you' after she sneezed.
