Just to play devil’s advocate a bit... I did Nutrisystem back in the day. I never did Medifast but they were often compared. It was by no means a long-term sustainable diet and I didn’t lose much weight on it anyway. BUT it was an “easy” diet in that I never had to think too much about what I was going to eat and I

I’m in that lost generation. 1984. I think there’s a split - a lot of weddings happened at 25 and then babies started at 30 - but those were my friends from like Ohio or the South. My friends from the Coasts are just getting married now, at 30 (myself included - engaged!), and my 35-40 year old city dweller friends

There’s no misunderstanding that sign!

I recently assumed something was a scam that wasn’t! Wells Fargo fraud protection called me and left a number to call. You call the number and it immediately asks you to put in identifying information. So I hung up and called the number on the back of my debit card instead.

Yeah, I love this. My first though was to wonder how she affords rent in NYC! Of course she’s living somewhere for free! Dude, I only spend around $5k a year on food without even trying really (I budget $450/mo).

I think people were just confused by “trust fund”. If you said, whose parents just gave her $20,000 free and clear, we’d get it. But $20,000 doesn’t sound like an amount of money you’d set up a trust fund for.

I’m pretty stunned that a researcher isn’t open to the possibility of sample bias. The fact that abortion isn’t traumatic for the subset of *women who chose to have an abortion* (who probably have a host of other factors in common) does not mean that abortion wouldn’t be traumatic for other women. The ones who never

I agree that for women who want an abortion, being denied one is harmful. I’m saying that for women who don’t want an abortion, I bet having one would be similarly harmful - but that doesn’t happen. So that isn’t reflected in those studies. Anyone who had an abortion chose to. Maybe they were religious or not or felt

I didn’t say women who have abortions are all traumatized or anything remotely like that. I don’t think women who carry a pregnancy to term suffer long term psychological damage either! But I do think women may have strong feelings and regrets and difficulties dealing with either choice. It is subjective for you to

Totally. I think people forget that Dan Savage has been writing his advice column for what 20 years? A lot of my sensitivity about various sexuality issues I learned from and alongside Dan.

It’s so not worth the difference in price. But it is SO MUCH nicer than economy.

lol right

I’m pro-choice. I personally agree with you and I don’t think there’s any debate that pregnancy is the more traumatizing *physical* choice. But I can respect a difference of opinion that believes that abortion is likely to be the more mentally trying choice.

I once went on a date with this very politically-minded black guy and he was telling me about how he used to be a Republican when he was younger. He was a huge Hillary supporter at the time (round 2007) so I was pretty shocked. But it seemed to be mainly because he was recruited by the Republican party and put right

I can’t imagine what those reasons could be...

All that other stuff sounds great, but I notice you don’t mention if they provide pregnancy counseling. If they do, I don’t give a shit about what other needed services they offer. I only care about whether they lie to vulnerable women about the risks of abortion to put pressure on them to make a particular choice.

I was curious about that too. Is it “you look too young to be making decisions like this for yourself. Let me lead you”?

“I know it’s a little bit racist but it’s not.”

I am not saying that all. I’m saying that while I know it usually works the other way, I have the funny experience of working in a field where I was specifically instructed to hire only people of color. And I suspect that I was hired because I was assumed to be a person of color. Because every single other person that

I don’t believe in reverse racism or anything, but honestly the opposite happens in my organization. I’ve been asked to screen resumes for “diverse” candidates. I think it has to do with funding - we do public interest work and maybe it looks good on grant applications? I honestly think I got this job partially
