As other people have already said, the use of "it" is not actually derogatory (grammatically at least). You should have focused on RMP1 saying Jenny was making food for him.

A lot of grammar-nazis find that offensive though. I always use "they" when referring to someone whom I don't want to identify gender, and boy... did those English profs in college hate that haha.
