As a survivor, he can’t redeem himself in my eyes. I don’t give a fuck what he does or what he owns up to. For me he’s canceled. He doesn’t get a pass on this just because he’s George Takei and everyone is engaging in a rape apologist circle jerk over him. There will be more stories. Trust and believe.

He also literally used “they said/they said” as an acceptable defence.

“Russian bot” has replaced “fake news” as the thing people go to when an argument or situation isn’t going their way.

Why don’t more people get this?

Takei was the first “liberal” that I realized may just be a token guy. He’s tweeted insuling things about the mentally ill before. He’s insinuated that women are “gross”, along with other sexist statements. He’s body shamed and fat shamed, in particular.

Why is being “liberal” a good thing? Liberals bomb the shit out of sovereign countries too.

God. Damnit.

It saddened me to see so many people commenting in the other story that they don’t believe Takei’s accuser, even when they believe accusers in other cases.

They enjoy being assholes. It’s that simple. There is no other explanation for this non-story.

But what about Justin Trudeau and Obama!?!? They have a BROMANCE! Millennial Pravd--Buzzfeed told me!

I find it more telling in the sense that while a lot of normal people think the Obamas are like them, they’re actually members of a powerful elite that treats political differences that affect the lives of billions of people as essentially a kayfabe thing.

I look forward to seeing Personal Shopper in the US when IFC releases it after they bought the distribution rights three weeks ago.

i kind of loved American Ultra. She was pretty great in it.

No one has actually booed her - even most of the bad reviews of the movie recognise that her performance isn’t the problem, and she’s actually gotten praise for her performance.

Yep, IFC distributes almost all of Assayas films in North America and has picked up this one too.

Christ, Bobby, could you fail any harder at research? Like, a 10-second search showed that the film was sold for American distribution.

It didn’t mention it because it already has US distribution: IFC Films. IFC had this title before it went to Cannes.

The reception wasn't as bad as the boos indicated. A lot of critics really liked it. And it shouldn't be hard to market it as an artistic horror film a la The Witch or The Babadook.

Every year people have the same stunned overreaction to booing at Cannes. Can we put that on a post-it in our calendars for next year? “There will be booing, it doesn’t mean anything.”
