Now Kim “I can lawyer from home” Kardashian meets the bar for talent?”

It’s not like the bar hasn’t long since been lowered below the floor. Steve Forbes hosted in 1996 and made Kim Kardashian look like Gilda Radner in comparison. Rudy Giuliani hosted in the late 90s too and did horribly. And Trump hosted twice.

I was bored last year and watched part of several on Hallmark and Lifetime, they have a really simple fixed formula that is in many of the movies. 1) Person is from a small town (cheaper to film and also plays well to the middle america demos) 2) Person really loved christmas as a kid 3) They are in the “big city” in

pro-early intervention”

The worst punishment in the world for me (and I suspect a LOT of people) would involved getting locked into a room with 24/7 insipid Hallmark Christmas movies. Predictable, saccharine to the point of nausea and just plain made for people who wish to keep their brains on a shelf growing dust.

It fell loudly because it was the story of a white woman deciding she would absolutely RUIN the career of a woman of color for failing to pay proper respect to her Great White Sacrifice. For crying out loud, it started with her being hurt because not enough people liked her Facebook post and it is ending with her

I read the “I value the relationship” exchange in the context of them fighting back and forth for weeks over email and Sonya trying to end the conversation. There was no indication in the article of either of them being friends or valuing anything about each other at any point.

I think what made this story insanely popular (besides pandemic boredom) is that everyone involved comes across as an asshole, but a relatable asshole. We’ve all known a Sonya or a Dawn, some of us have been a Sonya or a Dawn, and not a damn one of us would want our bitchy group texts printed in the New York Times.

“Nobody should be allowed to have an abortion” is not a liberal position, either in the classical or the modern left/feminist/progressive sense. It’s an authoritarian one.

Exactly. If the only “progressive” position you publicly protest about or do anything about is anti-abortion, you’re clearly not progressive. You just think (or you are funded by people who think) that progressive people are dumb enough to be swayed by some video to believe that the anti-abortion stance, which is

It’s obviously astroturfed. Go look at their website. These groups always try too hard because the donors want things that “look professional.”

Of course there’s huge range of views in this country. But off-beat grassroots groups in my experience don’t just pop into being with such highly polished communications. They have a very slickly designed and polished website that to my eye has the fingerprints of professional communicators all over it.

OK, fine. Be anti choice. I might even go along with it as long as you promote the following (play along with me now):
1. Mandatory science and fact based sex education, beginning by second grade. No exceptions on any grounds, even if you home school your kids.
2. Free birth control for all, no questions asked.
What do

Here in Pittsburgh there is a bizarre shitty anti-abortion “feminist” organization that is sadly quite real. They were at Pride a few years ago handing out shirts that said “#ConceivedThisWay.” They try to argue that along with being anti-abortion they are also anti-war and anti-meat, but they only ever actually do

Absolutely believe this. When I was married towards the end we had separate bedrooms. My ex was in second bedroom and became really really depressed. That wasn’t unusual so I didn’t think much of it. She asked if we could trade rooms and I said sure. A couple weeks later I was hugely depressed. I had no history of

I’m so sorry for your loss.  Thank you for sharing your story.

This story is beautifully written about all the kinds of things that can haunt us

I posted this last year hours before the deadline. Doubt many people saw it so I thought I’d post again. Hope that’s cool.

I didn’t write this one but know of the house in question. I also know the part about the bartender is true, as it happened to a friend when I first moved to town. The house is back up for rent now. I believe someone moved into it towards the end of last year, so it means another family couldn’t stand it.

(Trigger warning for self harm)

I HAVE BEEN CHECKING EVERY DAY SINCE IT WAS OCTOBER YESSSSSSSSSSSS
