I had a black 1993, 5 speed and a gray 1994, auto. They were really great cars to drive as a high school kid. Pretty cheap to buy, looked cool, wonderful V6, excellent handling and super reliable.

A friend of mine who was in the state I used to live in and would soon be moving back to, PA, sent me a link to a car when I was living and working in KS. I had been looking for a VW Passat wagon with a 1.8t for some time and my buddy knew this, he found this and it seemed right up my alley. TONS of upgrades and some…
100% this. RockAuto needs to have a some order value where they offer free shipping. I honestly would make a list of parts that I didn’t need RIGHT AWAY and then spend $200-$300 just to avoid the shipping fee.
Something few people realize is that buying something that is broken down, rusted, neglected, beyond repair, etc., then bringing it back to life by yourself or with the help of some friends, or your kids, is really a hell of a fulfilling experience.
This is kind of the unicorn for me. I have 2 VAG cars now of a slightly older vintage. One with 242K on the clock. Yes, they sometimes drive me nuts with weird repairs but its nothing that has not been manageable thus far. Parts aren’t outrageous and with so much aftermarket support, even the lowly MK3 and MK2…
I always wanted my parents to buy a GMT 360 vehicle because I thought they were cool. It always came down to gas mileage and space so our family ended up with an Astro with the old 4.3L V6. It could tow more, carry more, had cushy full recline seats in the middle and back row and, most importantly it was full time…
Excellent comment. I was thinking the exact same thing.
For everyone but Guy Fieri.
OH! I totally understand now. The gear was made of something akin to FRP with a metal hub. When I saw that on instagram I thought both pieces were metal and I couldn’t see the crack on my phone so I thought you were talking about the perfectly symmetrical groove around the hub.
Awesome work man. Someday I promise I will send you the pictures of my completed Passat with Allroad flares. Working on finding some negative offset steel wheels with the right bolt pattern and hub diameter.
So...does Edge now work for DirecTV Now? Previously it said you had an unsupported browser.
This list is crap. I see no Volkwagens or Audis.
I just did this myself last weekend. I only used store bought cuts but I did experiment a little by cutting the beef into pieces for removal prior to the final cook time. So I did a total of 3 pieces at a fairly high temp of 178F. Hot in comparison to yours but I based this temp on another article I read about…
Some even have elevators!
I just noticed this; your “work bench” looks suspiciously like a fold up plastic table.
“Speaking of the frame, I have to figure out a way to connect the body to it; I’m thinking wood blocks with big bolts through the center.”
I should have read down, I literally just said this. I fell prey to just about every water ingress issue that car ever had. To this day, I still check my floors after every rain.
This exact same problem occurs in the B5/C6 chassis VW’s/Audi’s. I bet that valve is the same crappy part found in those cars. When I removed the reed valve in mine I asked myself,“why is this even necessary?”
Awesome work! This has to take some of the pressure off for you.
Agreed, an incredibly complicated balancing act. I probably should have just kept my mouth shut but that article I linked in my original post really made me think we had at least some low hanging fruit like waste. An item one would think the hospitals themselves would want to limit unless they are raking in so much…
