Then came the Rise of Iron expansion, which was a step backwards.
Video is going to enhance our coverage—games are visual, after all! It won’t ‘take over’ our coverage tho. Plenty of writing happening around here still. :)
“We want people with a strong voice.” Check. “We want people who think visually, and can flex that muscle to break anything down to an audience.” Check. “We want people who have ideas for unique new shows.” Check. “We want people who are revving to show others cool games.” Check “We want people who can edit the hell…
I don’t legitimize the invalid complaints of people looking to cause trouble for their own amusement and benefit.
It could absolutely be compelling, but the question is, will it be -necessary-
I assumed it would be a reversal of Joel “raising” Ellie in the first one, where now Joel is getting older and deteriorating and it’s getting harder and harder for Ellie to keep him alive.
My prediction: Ellie and Joel’s relationship will completely deteriorate over the course of this game, and there will be a very messy “break-up” - either one of them leaves, or someone has to kill the other one.

I mean, true, it’s factually accurate to say that this is how it’s been done for 30 years. It’s still a gross fucking thing to say when their overall point is “do not give me the option to play as a woman.”
That’s fair. I mean, I realize that it’s just my personal opinion that Zelda’s gotten the shaft in the series. I barely remember PH and ST (I didn’t like them very much), but SS she was definitely a bigger part than in past games.
As much as I would love to play as Zelda (or play as the Hero reincarnated as a woman), I disagree with your overall point that Zelda has gotten short-shrift, especially after her strong role in games like PH/ST and SS.
As always, the internet is making much ado about nothing.
I understand this guy’s reasoning, and I definitely get where he’s coming from, but he does contradict himself.
I wish developers who create things with strong implicit biases, could just admit they did so with bias involved. As humans, certain experiences make it very easy to create things that cater specifically narrow standards, right?
I feel like admitting that we are flawed and can always do better, is way more acceptable…
Alex McCabe isn’t the kind of person who usually gets profiled on a video game website. He doesn’t make games,…
I’m relatively new to this site and to larger games writing. I hope that I develop a reputation for honesty. Plenty of sites can get hyperbolic when talking about games, spewing out one liners that look like the type of shit you see in commercials or GOTY edition boxes.
I’ll say it, I liked the storyline better in Brotherhood. What was great about the original was that it took the time to develop the characters and get you invested in them. So when it comes time for Hughes’ breakthrough or Nina’s transformation, there was a much bigger emotional impact.
I’m kind of torn between the…
