To be fair, INFINITE JEST has the opening chapter and the 2nd Erdedy chapter, both of which introduce the book in a pretty damn compelling way :-D.

Can you write every review of these episodes for the AVClub? You said it better than any review - negative or moderate - I've seen at this point. The taking for granted of the audience's attention in these shows, especially LUKE CAGE and IRON FIST, feels almost malicious in a weird way.

Yeah that's a really good point. And they had more of what you're talking about in DAREDEVIL, weirdly enough. (Not much of course.)

Lame. Still gonna stick it out. I'd like this to be the first Marvel Netflix series that actually gets better in its latter half.

4 episodes in and oh my holy lord do I want Danny Rand to get the living shit kicked out of him. This asshole is insufferable. I'm trying to stick it out but this guy is unreal annoying. And a fucking idiot. I'm supposed to root for him?

First time I had (good) sex with my psycho ex? Started about halfway through a documentary that I love and she wanted to see.

Just sayin': I would much rather watch this on a youtube video than the video for this article. That sounds absolutely fascinating.

Ha! Thanks for catching that, fixed.

"So why hasn’t Malick been able to match its majesty since? Why has his post-Tree work felt lesser somehow, like outtakes? Part of the reason, I’d wager, is that The Tree Of Life’s techniques, reconfigured in the films that followed, are better suited to capturing the primal vantage of youth, when adults are giant

I'm with you on this. As someone who enjoyed roughly half of each DD season (both of which have incredible material coexisting with deep structural flaws that, especially in season 2, bring the show crashing down) and loved almost all of JJ, LUKE CAGE's back half was like a televisual atrocity, sweet… Jesus. And it

I'm a massive TWIN PEAKS fan, which was another show that was an object lesson on both how, and how not, to do a weekly serialized TV show. The drop in quality in mid-season 2 in TWIN PEAKS is comparable to how bad the drop is in LUKE CAGE from episode 7 and 8. It's kinda incredible, like they had to work to fuck up

I'd forgotten about reading that article, but it's excellent and probably seeped into my early comment.

I think he's sometimes right, sometimes wrong, and as always, it depends on the format in which such art is created/intended. For instance, I enjoy parts of the Marvel Netflix shows, but LUKE CAGE is a fucking masterclass in how to fuck episodic storytelling up by allowing everything to bleed into each other, giving

Best damn hot-headed Lynch-look-alike director in Hollywood!

As much as I despise Snyder (his movies are to me visually what cat's grooming themselves are to my misophonia), I can concede that he is a pretty good casting director. For me, Amy Adams is literally the only thing I truly love about DC's movies. My ungodly crush on her probably helps, though. I like Batfleck and

Media noms are the BEST noms.

It's a messy, vicious cycle. I think this is probably true generally, but I'll only speak for me: I had a hereditary compulsion toward depression, and my various addictions (both conquered and current) expanded the hole that opened in me from depression (I think it's safe to say you can substitute whatever heritable

Did you ever read Patton Oswalt's SILVER SCREEN FIEND? It's one of the best recent, highly readable books about just how generalized Addiction can be. Breaking my own addiction to media and moderating it was just as hard as breaking my own addiction to amphetamines and opiates, it's just a different beast eliciting

The rapid success of Jennifer Lawrence after FIRST CLASS was one of the most destructive things to an already pretty shitty and muddled franchise by that point. I could barely get through DOFP and APOCALYPSE because of how ham-handed their elevating of Mystique's presence was in their own mythos.

So he knows how to get his Saur On?
