I also find it very insulting that many gamers associate a game with just one person as opposed to a team. Like for example, yes Kev Levine and Hideo Kojima are indeed are the main brains behind Bioshock and Metal Gear Solid games respectively, but, those games had a great amount of feedback and work done by the rest

Seems to me video game publishers are following he exact same course as movie studios did back in the day, except on a slightly accelerated curve. PC and consoles are the movies, tablets and phones are TV. At first they were all indies, then they became integrated, then they cooperated and the buyouts started.

This article sums up my general opinion about the game industry pretty well. As someone who has been in game development for a short while, I can do nothing but confirm your perspective, because even this one year showed how fundamentally broken this whole industry is.

Almost like myself and others have been saying this for years. Why is it that when I say it I get called crazy and when this guy says it everyone's like "Oh that's a shame" "Makes total sense" "Commonknowledge." etc etc etc?

Excellent article!

I've been complaining about publishers for years, though my complaints lie more in the consumer-hating practices like online passes, botched DRM, etc., that neither benefit the developer or the consumer, they just make more money (or would hope to secure more money) for the publisher.

This is a very well written article. As someone who has been on the press side of the industry and met with a ton of developers over the years, this seems to be the general feeling across the board.
