My 1.4T Jetta (5MT) gets about 36 at a constant 80-85 MPH. 40+ MPG is easily attainable, my record for my 80 mile one way commute is 52.1. I got over 40 in it driving it home off the lot for 80 miles (EPA rated at 40). 5th gear is REALLY tall.
