Counterpoint to your museum idea (and I hope I don’t come off too hostile because I think you’re great and correct): The statute wasn’t even erected until 1913. Many of these confederate monuments aren’t actually very old and were literally built with the intention of reminding minorities of “their place.” Take them

Agreed, without caveat.

As someone who moved to the frozen north from the mid-south (Kentucky), I know more than a few people who genuinely try to make the argument that destroying these statues is tantamount to “destroying history.”

...a number of those people no longer speak to me, because I had the temerity to suggest, “Well, look, if it’s

The “bottom rail.” **snort**

“It makes it doubly sweet to know that we have been remembered in the erection of this beautiful memorial. The present generation, I am persuaded, scarcely takes note of what the Confederate soldier meant to the welfare of the Anglo Saxon race during the four years immediately succeeding the war, when the facts

Truth! And here is a link for anyone who doesn’t believe it.

Yeah, but “civility” and “heritage” or some shit.

Tip 20% or stay home. I’m not in the industry, but come on. Don’t be an ass hat, these people are serving you so you can enjoy a night out. Have some common decency people!

Yeah the more important part is noting that the sommelier, wine manager, or bartender is almost certainly getting a nice little chunk of that 20%

tbh I have no idea when 15% turned into 20% but i still tip 20% on ridiculous jacked up NYC prices. i will laugh if it ever turns into 25%.

You’re right, no one is obligated to not be a miserable piece of shit. He’s talking about tipping less just based on the price of the wine, regardless of service.

This predictable comment comes up in every time there is an online discussion about tipping. This comment always amuses me because it wreaks of the arrogant assumption that whatever you do won’t be replaced by a machine in a similar time frame. Please. Enlighten me. What do you do that will not be replaced by a

Has the whole world gone mad? The price of food is so expensive in the city, and I assume that’s to make the servers’ tips on that food livable, but I swear every year the standard goes up. I don’t think 18% is bad! I think 15% is the minimum but 18% isn’t bad ffs! However, I say this but I had a mild panic attack

Re: your first paragraph. I thought that part was explaining why the bottle of wine is marked up because the letter writer doesn’t seem to understand that.

On the one hand, it takes no more effort to open a $15 bottle than a $50 bottle.

I didn’t work for free. I got paid well over minimum wage while putting myself through college. Added benefit, I took home cash every night whereas other suckers had to wait two weeks to go cash a check.

If you tip 18% sometimes and describe yourself as a good tipper, I’m afraid you’re mistaken.

Damn, my paycheck is 15 years old and the law still says $2.13 an hour?

Q: Do I really need to tip on the full amount on an overpriced bottle of wine?
