I would recommend Coke and a wad of aluminum foil for rusty, nasty cast iron cookware. Simple as it sounds it works wonders, Ive used it on several dutch ovens in disrepair. Im probably getting a bit anal here but this isnt chopping, its splitting. Chopping is done across the grain with an axe, splitting is done along the axis of the tree with a splitter or maul.
