Second this. I'm using a MBP from 2006 hooked to an external keyboard and monitor as my main rig and its running fine. Sure the battery doesn't really work longer than 30 mins if i try to laptop it, but that's to be expected fro over 5.5 years. Might be luck of the draw, but I've never had a PC last me that long.

Out here in the Mid-Atlantic, it has been out all morning. Has been a nice respite from the continuous buzzing to which I am accustomed.
