¯\_(ツ)_/¯ you get what you pay for? Anecdotally, I tried to make the switch to PCs and during that two year time, I went through two computers. I have a MPB at home that I’ve had for 7 years now and with a semi-annual OS re-install, it runs like new.
You can get a larger monitor for a laptop. I have two 30-inch monitors coming out of my MBP with an external keyboard and mouse. A lot of people at my office have a MBP in clamshell mode as their desktop.

Here’s your answer: Marketing. I graduated in 2014 with an English degree, jumped right into marketing and now do project management. You might have to start at the bottom of the ladder, but you can be very successful as long as you’ve learned how to learn. My BA in Liberal Arts prepared me well for that.
