OK. Any artistic movement of any era.
OK. Any artistic movement of any era.
Yeah, it’s right up there with Night and Spandau next to it. Right on the old railroad book shelves.
I will when they start curating modern art.
Yeah. What a uninformed asshole. Education. Equality. Integrity. That’s all that I truly believe or care about at all times.
Yup. I even believe Mein Kampf should be right on the shelf next Night.
Mapplethorpe happened. And there was undeniable fall out. And yes it centered on the attempt to keep the exhibition shuttered by any means necessary, up to and including prosecution. This is something every American should be cognizant of.........
Yeah. I like to know what the assholes think. Especially the smart subversive ones. I can look at pix of the Holocaust or Jim Crow lynchings in art galleries or museum and have the appropriate response. I think it’s a good idea to remind ourselves of what we were or could be........
OK. You know exactly what you want. I can still see merit in not hiding it. Say ten years down the road you put a retrospective of this on with your timeline. As in this is where we were in the pop/ culture/ art / society/ gender world ten years ago. And this is where we are now. This brings me to a question of you.…
Right. Got it all figured out. The art gallery is a different space though. And I still believe I or whoever should be able to view it, then have the conversation with you. Because then I would know what you were talking about, because we would have a shared experience. I would then tell you what I saw and vice versa.…
Well, second date? Did she ever find out? One and done? Sorta reminds of the girl who live tweeted to her sister about a poop incident on a first date....
Point being, the type of people who patronize a Klan rally and a art gallery are most likely of different mindset. So, why not peacefully point out your objections to the material before the art patron enters. Then after the patron views the material you object to, have a conversation. I’m painting with a broad brush…
I found a buddy passed out on a hotel toilet with a open pizza box, several half eaten slice’s within arm’s reach and crumbs in his chest hair. So, you decided to eat and shit at the same time my friend? Just couldn’t wait to eat til the shitting was done, could ya now?
OK, hand out lit peaceful at the exhibition stating your objections. Because hey, there is a big difference between a Klan rally and a art exhibition. Maybe give the patrons a little adult benefit of the doubt that they can view something you deem offensive with out the patron becoming indoctrinated into the offensive…
So how was the sandwich or the other thing?
Object. Absolutely. Just don’t advocate or force prohibition. That’s all.
So, what is it you want? What should be the take away? What point do you want me to understand? I think the exhibition should be viewed by whomever chooses to see it. What am I missing in your opinion?
Winner.
Saw a guy doing the same thing at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Always a memory maker.
I’ve not witnessed the exhibition. And yeah the hint of censorship gives me a tummy ache. And I can bet you for certain if a respectable gallery was showing something that was no doubt racist, I would absolutely go. I just like seeing what the other side has going down.
By and large I agree. I’m a little squeamish about censorship into hysteria in the creative world. Possibly more sensitive than I should. I have not seen this exhibition. The other thing that reminds me of Cincinnati is that Barrie was prosecuted over less than ten photos of a larger exhibition. From what I understand…
