Honestly, it seems like he’s a feminist in theory. And there’s value in that when a person is contributing to a wider culture.

I think it depends. You can be a feminist and a crap person. But if you’re a crap person in ways that are specific to how you treat the women in your life, the line blurs a bit.
It’s so sad that none of this is surprising.
This is so heartbreaking. I hope the boyfriend was put in jail for a very long time.
Agreed. If this is the full story, they’re just wasting police time and taxpayer money by charging him.
I seriously can’t imagine this going to trial. If it does, everyone is going to be on this kid’s side.
From what I understand, there was at least one more incident that occurred in France, right after he fled there. I don’t have the source handy, but if I remember correctly, the police there never even charged him.
I wish that I could sit every ‘cool girl’ down and make them repeat “I am not special to them” a thousand times.
In general, I think that people who have committed felonies should be able to move on with their lives once they’ve served their time. But the reason this, particular instance feels so icky is because:
It could have been worse. He could have denied wrongdoing or focused on how she violated his privacy. He cleared a very low bar for public apologies.
What in the world is the response to LW #1 about? I would venture a guess that most people would be upset and would want to help (even if they know they can’t) if they saw an acquaintance’s mental health problem being exploited by someone. Basic human compassion is real.
I love everything about J. K. Rowling’s tweet.
If you can’t sign a talented artist because you have no self control, you do not deserve to run a record label. You are not good at what you do.
I’m kind of surprised at the comments here.
These news shows are basically unwatchable, now. No one ever answers a direct question and the conversations go nowhere. It’s a complete waste of time.
I think it’s either a) they’re not actually religious but are just attracted to positions of power b) they assume that they can ask for forgiveness and all will be well or c) they’re so warped that they think they’re powerful enough for God to condone what they do.
I’m happy he didn’t do it, because you know that murder would end up being investigated and he would have been thrown in jail.
To me, it just indicated how little investigation there was for her murder. If they had had information, I think they would have included it.
Recovered memories got a bad reputation because some doctors mishandled their patients, but that doesn’t mean that they’re bogus in general.
One of the saddest things, for me, was that everyone involved pretty much just got away with it. Even if they are able to investigate now (which I hope they do), they will only be able to give the families answers, not justice.
