It’s a choice in that people get to choose how they practice their religion. If one person feels more devout following certain customs (like not drinking alcohol, eating pork, having a kosher diet, etc.) that can be incorporated into how they practice their faith.

People are upset with the law and feel that it’s unfair to police something as personal and harmless as someone’s clothing. I completely support their choice to not follow this law, particularly when the French police are so selective in enforcing it.
