Uh not really no. Texting definitely still uses a unified protocol across the carriers. It may just be data once it gets into carrier pipes, but it’s still built on a unified standard outside of those pipes for the purposes of this conversation.

So this suggests to me that it’s just a very throttled free version of their wifi that’s been locked down to very specific ports. That’s the only way specifying a platform makes sense.

I can’t imagine it’s true on more than the most basic level. There should be a closer relationship between teams on the pixel, so they should be able to use the API better.
